Rustic Pastures is the name we are proud to represent our small-scale family farm and current homesteading lifestyle. At Rustic Pastures, animal welfare and land stewardship are our highest priorities in our farming practice. We have an interest and mission in striving to care for animals humanely with the goal of producing a high-quality sustainable source of nourishment for ourselves and the community.

Our story and background include that we as a family have roots in both northern Minnesota and in the metropolitan areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul. In 2016, we moved from suburban life in the twin cities to the rustic pasture of the MN northwoods. While we remain grateful for our time spent in the urban land, we also now feel privileged to be nestled back in the forest less than a few miles away from the shore and beauty of Lake Superior. Our farming and growing seasons are shorter here, but certainly the area brings its own unique beauty and offerings for both lifestyle and farming.

Our decision to re-locate and pursue this venture was accompanied with much consideration and true grit. After settling to a new way of life, we took our next step by putting action into the dreams of raising our own animals. This decision was prompted by the desire to make conscious choices about how we live our lives and how the food we consume to nourish ourselves is handled and cared for. We raise pastured chickens and forested pigs seasonally as well as care for our few hobby farm animals year-round. Currently, our growing specialty is in raising animals. We work with a local USDA inspected facility for quality meat processing. We also have a few unique produce items that are naturally grown in the beautiful forest and are available certain times of the year. We are grateful to have the opportunity to carry out this philosophy of farming on the Minnesota Northshore!
